What is Occupational Therapy In the School Setting
 

The purpose of the Occupational Therapy Program is to provide students who have documented physical, motor and/or sensory integrative disabilities with the training needed for them to benefit from a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE).  Occupational Therapy (OT) services for students with special needs are determined through the IEP process.

The emphasis of school based occupational therapy is on skills impacting learning/education—where the child is for the larger part of the day.  The focus is to eliminate/decrease barriers to learning and to ensure participation in the educational environment through accommodations and modifications as opposed to attempting to change underlying causes.  Services are provided based on education-related difficulties which impair the ability to function within the school environment.
